"Hay Spik Espanish"

Artist Statement

Growing up in Mexico and moving to the United States as a teenager presented many challenges.
My work consists of the exploration of language barriers and the cultural shocks that one may encounter coming from a Spanish speaking country such as Mexico to the United States, as well as the differences and similarities that make the relationship between these two countries very unique. Through the use of a variety of medias I attempt to explore and illustrate these experiences. Ultimately my goal is to make the viewer question what it means to communicate while introducing each culture. The utilization of computer programming gives me the opportunity to come up with an initial idea before transferring it to the real world. Even though multiple materials are used in the creation of my artwork I heavily rely on programming languages and different design environments. Conceptual artists such as Glenn Lignon , Joseph Kosuth and Sol Lewitt are my inspiration.
